FRANCE REQUIRES BLIND SPOT WARNING STICKERS

From January 1st 2021, all heavy vehicles in France both goods and passenger transport vehicles need to have a sign to inform others about their blind spots

As of January 1st 2021, all heavy vehicles in France (both goods and passenger transport vehicles) must be fitted with a sign to inform others about their vehicle’s blind spots.

According to the decree published by the French Ministry on 20th November 2020, heavy vehicles over 3,5 tonnes driving in cities, have to be fitted with an infographic sticker informing other road-users about their vehicle’s blind spots (please find the picture below). The sticker (or stickers) must be visible from the sides and the rear of the vehicles.

Please, be informed that a grace period of 12 months (until January 1, 2022) has been introduced during which vehicles can use, (on the sides and at the rear of the truck), a blind spot device similar to this mentioned in the decree published by the French Ministry, even if this device does not strictly conform to the model of stickers.

Failure to comply with this obligation may result in a 4th class fine which is usually 135 euros but in a worst-case scenario, it can be as much as 750 euros.
